Silva Areæ

Frequently ignored and misunderstood, the Silva Areæ (forest floor) is a complex and surprisingly beautiful ecosystem vital to the health of forests and Terra itself. This artwork is a fusion of body and land, acknowledging that all biological life is interconnected. Roots and veins/mycelium intertwine, while surface forms evoke cycles of respiration, decay and renewal. Fungal species like Rametes, Ramaria and Mycena; together with mosses and lichens like Cladonia and Leucobryum contribute. We are reminded that human life deeply affects ecological systems, and old growth forests, the lungs of the earth, suffer from unsustainable development and climate change.
